BIG Talian 05 Update Many New Theme Features
New admin menu (screenshot to right) for Talian 05, no more editing the adsense.php file to add your Google AdSense Publisher ID. All major settings are available directly through the WordPress Dashboard.
The screenshot of the new Talian 05 admin page shows just a small sample of the 40+ options available!
Add Clickbank AdSense style ads to your blog.
Talian 05 is the only AdSense ready WordPress theme or even AdSense WordPress plugin that allows the users to set Google AdSense Channels for tracking the performance of specific ads without template file editing. Add up to 6 Google AdSense channels via the new Talian admin page (one for each of the 6 ad units available) and track which AdSense setup works best for your sites.
Set the colour of both the AdSense and Clickbank ads directly from your WordPress Dashboard.
Don’t like the ads floating to the right of the main content, float them to the left instead, same for the Clickbank ads.
Just want to use Talian 05 as an SEO WordPress theme or even SEO CMS, a few clicks on the Talian 05 admin menu and NO AdSense or Clickbank ads will show and you can even remove the date when a post was made (so your site doesn’t look like a blog).
Don’t like the default banner images, no problems, choose from 10 banner sets (100 banner images in total) or why not create your own and choose them from the Talian 05 admin screen.
Banners don’t really work for your site, turn them off completely with two clicks of the mouse.
Bored of the default orange and green Talian colour scheme, choose from 8 preset colour schemes including Red (used on this site), Blue, Blue/Orange, Yellow etc…
Track your sites traffic with Google Analytics, just add the UA code (supplied by Google Analytics for each domain you register) for the domain to the admin screen and the rest is dealt with by Talian 05.
Above is just a sample of the new options available with the built in admin panel.
Talian 05 Feature List Overview
- Search Engine Optimized Code (second best SEO WordPress theme in the world today!).
- Built in AdSense ads with easy to use options (no editing multiple theme files) : one click to turn on/off.
- Built in Clickbank ads (they look like AdSense ads) with easy to use options (no editing multiple theme files) : one click to turn on/off.
- Fully widgetized theme.
- Targeted AdSense Coding.
- Multiple theme colour schemes.
- Multiple banner schemes with easy to use customisation.
- Built in Google Analytics Code : just add your Google Analytics UA code (no template editing).
- Ability to change comments into search engine indexable ‘blog like posts’ using a customised version of the SEO Super Comments plugin (only works with Talian 05).
- Custom widget template file: add your own widgets (sidebar menu items) without touching the functions.php file making it easier to customise your site without the hassle of lots of code work when a new update is released.
- Two sitemap options, basic sitemap listing blog posts and blog pages and an advanced sitemap with the above plus links to the latest 100 comments (used on this site in the top navigation menu).
- Navigation menu looking messy, turn it off completely or exclude some blog pages.
- Turn the ability of your commenter’s to add an author link on/off and turn current author links on/off.
- Turn the date you made a post on or off, particularly useful if you use WordPress as an SEO CMS (content management system) rather than a blog.
Talian 05 Colour Scheme Screenshots
Below is a selection (there are more) of the available Talian 05 colour schemes, click an image for full size view.
Through rigorous testing I’ve found Talian to be the best AdSense theme from a CTR (click through rate) perspective, with a CTR on some sites above 6%. Talian is the ONLY WordPress theme I currently use on my own WordPress websites, it’s that good (I have over 70 WordPress installations: slowly updating to Stallion 6).
WordPress Talian theme with Google AdSense, Clickbank and SEO Optimisation
Take a look at Adventure Travel Vacations for a website currently using the Talian theme with a high AdSense CTR (recently update the site to the Stallion SEO Theme).
The first screenshot shows a home page of a Talian 05 theme running site. You can see one of the three Google AdSense ad units in the screenshot, this is the ad unit that floats to the right (or left, change via the admin menu) at the top of the content of the first post only. You can also see the sidebar AdSense widget that can be placed anywhere on the two sidebars (I find the top left works best for this AdSense ad unit).
I’ve looked at many other WordPress themes that include AdSense and other than a copy cat (someone copied the code of an earlier version of Blix 02 with AdSense/SEO theme of mine and called it BlixKrieg) no one uses this technique of floating an Ad unit within the content of the first post of archive pages (home page, category, tag and search pages). This location is one of the most clicked areas (AdSense hot zone), by utilising this location this ad unit almost always performs well.
You will find the same ad units and placement for all pages of the blog, which will maximise AdSense revenue.
Further down the page (not on the screenshot) is the third and final ad unit, out the box the Talian 05 AdSense ad unit is set at 468×60, the size of all ad units can be changed manually via the adsense.php file in a text editor, so changing the size doesn’t need a PHP programmer or anything
.

Search Engine Optimization Information
Most WordPress themes aren’t too bad SEO wise when downloaded directly from their original creators, but there are always improvements that can be made for maximum SEO impact and this theme was no different.
The Talian AdSense/Clickbank + SEO theme includes-
Optimized title elements (and meta tags, though they aren’t very important these days). Take a look at the title of this page, note it’s keyword rich and lacks the name of the site (for SEO reasons).
Optimised headers, for example on blog post pages like this one the name of the blog is NOT within a H1 header, (every theme I’ve used has a H1 header that holds a link to home page). Instead the title of the post is within the H1 header and the link to home is only a H1 header on pages that lack a true keyword focus like the monthly archive pages. This is the first WordPress theme that I thought to do this and it results in significant SEO improvements.
Optimised anchor text of almost all automatically generated links.
Links to unimportant pages (from an SEO perspective) like the log in links (those links waste a LOT of PR/link benefit) are no longer wasting link benefit.
Basically optimised everything I could which makes this the most optimised WordPress theme I’ve edited so far.
Make a PayPal payment for $20.00 for Talian 05 using the PayPal button. After payment you’ll receive an email (within minutes) with an instant download link of the zipped Talian SEO theme.
Compatible with WordPress 2.0, WordPress 2.1, WordPress 2.2, WordPress 2.3, WordPress 2.5, WordPress 2.6, WordPress 2.7, WordPress 2.8, WordPress 2.9, WordPress 3, WordPress 3.1 and WordPress 3.2. Will be updated for WordPress 3.* etc… and will be available for free to all Talian SEO/AdSense/Clickbank Ready WP Theme customers.
Please note Clickbank recent disabled their AdSense like ad platform, so the Clickbank ads no longer work, will be removed in the next update.

Talian theme with a logo in the header
Hi David,
I have tried to create a clickable logo for my Talian site while keeping the SEO strength of the logo in the header.
What I’ve learned is that most CSS tricks for logo in the header using a background logo and H1 with a display: none or indent=-9999, which is wrongful when it comes to search engine optimization.
The original Talian theme uses a clickable site name and was SEO friendly because it puts in h1 the blog name and also a paragraph with the site info.
My workaround for the logo was somewhat different, here is what I did:
On the header.php:
div class=”header_site_desc” h1 a href=” /”><img alt="” title=”Home” src=” /images/logo.png” /> /a> /h1 /divAnd on the css.style file:
.header_site_desc {float: left;
clear: left;
}
.header_site_desc h1 a {
display: block;
margin-top: -10px;
}
.header_site_desc a img {
border: none;
display: block;
}
While, this way still doesn’t have the same SEO strengths as it was in the original theme, it puts the logo in an H1.
What do you think?

SEO Value of Alt Text of a Image Link Within a H1 Header
If you put your code between code tags CODE —- /CODE it should render it correctly without having to edit the code (can be a bit temperamental). I edited your code.
If you look at the Talian 5 code I used you’ll see a lot of if statements that I’m not clear if your code has removed them.
Original Talian 5 header code.
<?php if (is_page("archives") || is_year() || is_month() || is_day() || is_home() || is_404() || is_author()) { ?><h1><a href="<?php echo get_settings('home'); ?>"><?php bloginfo('name'); ?></a></h1><?php } ?><?php if (is_category() || is_single() || is_page() || is_search()) { ?><span><a href="<?php echo get_settings('home'); ?>"><?php bloginfo('name'); ?></a></span><?php } ?>
<?php if ( function_exists('is_tag')){ ?><?php if (is_tag()) { ?><span><a href="<?php echo get_settings('home'); ?>"><?php bloginfo('name'); ?></a></span><?php } ?><?php } ?>
Try something like this
<?php if (is_page("archives") || is_year() || is_month() || is_day() || is_home() || is_404() || is_author()) { ?><h1><a href="<?php echo get_settings('home'); ?>"><img alt="<?php bloginfo('name'); ?>" src="/images/logo.png" /></a></h1><?php } ?><?php if (is_category() || is_single() || is_page() || is_search()) { ?><span><a href="<?php echo get_settings('home'); ?>"><img alt="<?php bloginfo('name'); ?>" src="/images/logo.png" /></a></span><?php } ?>
<?php if ( function_exists('is_tag')){ ?><?php if (is_tag()) { ?><span><a href="<?php echo get_settings('home'); ?>"><img alt="<?php bloginfo('name'); ?>" src="/images/logo.png" /></a></span><?php } ?><?php } ?>
The above basically replaces the anchor text with an image.
You will also have to edit your CSS to take into account the above isn’t just a H1 tag, it’s span tags as well. The H1 code is used on the home page and monthly archives basically, the span code for posts,pages and categories and tags which have a H1 tag using the name of the post or cat/tag and we don’t want the site name asa H1 on those pages. Didn’t check your CSS in detail, but as is I think it would work on the home page and archives, but not posts and pages etc…
Possible SEO issue with this is it’s not clear how Google treats image links with keyword rich alt text surrounded by a H1 header in place of a text link with keyword rich anchor text surrounded by a H1 header.
Anchor text is visible, alt text is semi-hidden, if I had to hazard a guess I’d say it’s given less SEO value than anchor text and the H1 might even be ignored -- I don’t know which is why I stick with either body text or anchor text within the H1, you can be reasonably confident Google counts it as a H1.

Create a H1 Widget To Replace the H1
To add to the above if you wanted to keep it simple you could strip out all the H1 code and add a replacement H1 as a widget.
In the Stallion SEO Theme there’s a lot more options and layouts than with Talian and some of them completely disable the header area so there’s no home page link within a H1 which meant there’s no H1 header on some layouts.
For users who wanted this layout I added a H1 Header Replacement widget that basically mimicked the H1 text link as just a H1 header (not a link) that holds the site title. Like the header.php code this loads a H1 header on the homepage, monthly archives and a span code for posts, pages, cats and tags.
This is the Stallion widget code, add it as is to the bottom of the functions.php file of Talian and you should get a new widget which can be added to a sidebar.
<?phpfunction st_h1re() { ?>
<?php if (is_page("archives") || is_year() || is_month() || is_day() || is_home() || is_404() || is_author()) { ?><h1 style="font-size: 1.1em; font-weight: normal;"><span class="gat_widget"><?php bloginfo('name'); ?></span></h1><?php } ?>
<?php if (is_category() || is_single() || is_page() || is_search() || is_tag()) { ?><span class="gat_widget"><?php bloginfo('name'); ?></span><?php } ?>
<?php if(st_tagline()=='1'){ ?><p><?php bloginfo('description'); ?></p>
<?php } ?>
<?php } wp_register_sidebar_widget(
'st_h1re',
'Stallion H1 Replacement',
'st_h1re',
array(
'description' => 'Stallion SEO Theme H1 Header Replacement for sites with Title Link OFF (Under Layout Options).'
)
);
?>
It includes the tagline as well, if you want the tagline elsewhere delete the relevant code. Reasonably sure the CSS will work with Talian.
If you use this widget you can do whatever you want with the header.php home page link, I would remove the H1 code (you don’t want two sets of H1s) and have it as a basic clickable image link with alt text as the title of the site.
What you are trying to achieve is kind of possible with Stallion with no code editing. There’s two types of header areas with Stallion and one of the includes a clickable image link which can have randomly rotating images or a fixed image example at Images and Pictures Photography Blog (refresh the page, new image loads). In Stallion the top header part (with the link back to home and tagline) can be disabled which would leave the clickable image at the top of the page, which is what you are trying to achieve. Example of end result with one clickable image and the H1 replacement header in place https://www.totallyduh.com/ (warning site filled with racists slagging one another off!). The widget with heading “Really Funny Stuff” is the H1 replacement widget and the text below it is the tagline.
My long term plan is to update Talian to use the Stallion code, just have to figure out how to do it without causing a major headache for myself on theme updates

WordPress SEO Theme Talian 5 with AdSense Ads
David,
You’ve improved my solution. But as you indicated, it has a SEO risk and that is why I was so hesitated and won’t go with this solution -- I am too cautious when it come to Search Engines.
As for the second option (Stallion widget) and the new Stallion (two types of header areas), these are brilliant options to choose for the logo
You haven’t missed this important SEO part of the Stallion theme (what so many theme creators wouldn’t even notice).

logo plus the blog name in a single header
David,
Please delete this message after reading. [It's just to show another good way of doing it.]
I managed to include the logo Plus the blog name in a single header.
I have decided to remove the blog info, which is less important.
for the header.php
<div class="header_site_desc"><a href="https://localhost/wordpress/"><img alt="<?php bloginfo('name'); ?>" title:"Home" src="https://localhost/wordpress/images/logo2.png" /></a><?php if (is_page("archives") || is_year() || is_month() || is_day() || is_home() || is_404() || is_author()) { ?><h1><a href="<?php echo get_settings('home'); ?>"><?php bloginfo('name'); ?></a></h1><?php } ?>
<?php if (is_category() || is_single() || is_page() || is_search()) { ?><span><a href="<?php echo get_settings('home'); ?>"><?php bloginfo('name'); ?></a></span><?php } ?>
<?php if ( function_exists('is_tag')){ ?><?php if (is_tag()) { ?><span><a href="<?php echo get_settings('home'); ?>"><?php bloginfo('name'); ?></a></span><?php } ?><?php } ?>
</div>
And for the css.style:
.header_site_desc {
float: left;
clear: left;
width: 435px;
height: 90px;
}
.header_site_desc a img {
border: none;
display: block;
margin-top: 10px;
margin-bottom: 3px;
padding-left: 0px;
}
.header_site_desc h1, .header_site_desc span {
margin-top: -8px;
padding: 0px;
float: left;
width: 400px;
font-size: 1.2em;
color:
white;
font-weight: bold;
}
.header_site_desc h1 a:link, .header_site_desc h1 a:visited, .header_site_desc span a:link, .header_site_desc span a:visited {
color: #FFFFFF;
text-decoration: none;
padding-left: 3px;
border-left-width: 2px;
border-left-style: solid;
border-left-color: #000000;
}
.header_site_desc h1 a:hover, .header_site_desc h1 a:active, .header_site_desc span a:hover, .header_site_desc span a:active {
color: #FFFFFF;
text-decoration: none;
padding-left: 3px;
border-left-width: 2px;
border-left-style: solid;
border-left-color: #9ACA3C;
}
Also played with the navigators ul margin to make it fit the header bottom.
Thanks for your time and technical support.

3 column Talian theme - entral column using variable lengths
I have some thoughts of changing the layout of the 3 column Talian theme wanting the right sidebar to be located 400-600 pixels down its current position while the central column takes this location (post-content / left post / post entry ).
Two reasons for doing this –
1. Giving the central column, where the content located, more space especially at the beginning of the post.
2. Putting one of the best performing context ad -- 728x90 Adsense ad under the post title.
It makes the central column having variable lengths -- Starting wider and then narrowing down the scroll.
I know this query is way beyond the scope of this template, but any initial direction from you is appreciated.

Staggered 3 Column WordPress Layout
When I first read the comment (via email) thought it was for the Stallion Theme which has a Talian colour scheme and the 3 column layout and answered the question for Stallion, Doh!
As you’ll read below it’s not easy for Stallion which has multiple column layouts (Talian has one layout) which gives many more starting points for customization. Not sure how you’d achieve what you want with Talian, but since I wrote the comment (in a text editor, keep an offline copy of everything I write) before realising it was for Talian I’ve included it below.
Stallion Theme Staggered 3 Column WordPress Layout
Think I understand your layout idea, that would be a difficult layout to code.
If you understand CSS really well I’d make a starting point with one of the left sidebar layouts (200 px for example) and using some interesting CSS coding have one of the two sidebars (both left and right sidebars exist in all layouts) float on the right over the main content X pixels from the top and add a ‘CSS square’ on the right within the main content so main content doesn’t go under the sidebar (think that’s possible).
So the right side of the screen would be main content and using CSS have a square that doesn’t load content and over that blank square float/position (using CSS) one of the sidebars.
I think I could code this, but would take me a few hours to get right, it’s a tricky one. Wouldn’t be possible to provide code examples to point you in the right direction, I’d have to research how to do some of the above (reasonably sure it’s possible
).
I would consider adding it to Stallion, but I think it would not work in all possible Stallion setups so would mean it would only work under some situations, can’t add a layout that won’t work with all settings.
Interesting idea for a layout.
If you just want the 728px wide AdSense ad there’s the ad area that’s below the header area.
Under Stallion AdSense Options
Movable Content Ad Unit -- set to -- Below Navigation links
This will put an ad between the top navigation links and main content.

Staggered 3 Column WordPress Layout - Tallian not Stallion
Hi David,
Just some words before –
I know how to put the 728 ad under the top navigation and main content area. That’s easy. It doesn’t perform like putting it under the post title -- I have already checked it.
The key reason for my initiative, above what I said, is that the 328x280 or 300x250 under title have a real negative impact on the user experience -- People leave the site earlier, while 728 doesn’t create such an impact.
I see it like that -- 328 and 300 are good for the incomes but less good for the site’s long run success.
The new text style of 728, the horizontal texting, is what makes it so good for content based websites.
BTW: This type of a column, with variable lengths, can be seen in the online New York Times and some other online magazines -- They employ the best designers and there’s a good reason they selected this layout for their main content column..
So, with your inputs above, I am going to put some time on it.
My CSS knowledge is limited as an autodidact but I’ve manage to work through/around many styling challenges till now.

Talian 5 vs Stallion 7 CSS Layouts
If you bought Talian three years ago you were automatically upgraded to Stallion when I was looking for feedback on Stallion 6.0: basically when Stallion 6 was in beta release gave all Talian 5 users Stallion for free. Info about this at Talian 5 Theme Support (Stallion 7.1.1 zip file download link on the right as well).
I won’t be taking the Talian 5 code as it currently is any further (will fix major bugs of course), I plan to use the Stallion 7 core code minus non-Talian colour schemes as the next Talian update because Stallion is so much better in all aspects (next Stallion update adding Google Panda Busting SEO features you won’t find anywhere else), but haven’t figured out how to do the Talian 5 to Talian 7 (using Stallion code) yet without a massive amount of work. Since you probably already have a Stallion ID would make sense to update to Stallion 7 which will give you dozens of new features that’s not part of Talian 5: Stallion includes the Talian 5 colour schemes and Talian layout.
It would be a LOT more CSS code changes to get Talian to do what you want than Stallion, Stallion includes 12 layout CSS files for the different layouts, one of the left sidebar layouts (there’s 3 of them) would be a much easier starting point than the Talian 5 css file. I personally wouldn’t attempt it with Talian 5.
Regarding the layout you propose I took a look at the New York Times and didn’t see it in action, example link?
If I’ve understood what you want it would be a cool layout and I’m thinking about trying to add it to Stallion even if it is a pain to get the code working with all Stallion features.

Post Content DIVS wrapping the right sidebar 500-600 pixels from the top
see:
https://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/05/opinion/no-medal-for-the-international-olympic-committee.html?ref=internationalolympiccommittee
Look at the two divs: articleInline runaroundLeft and shareTools where the div called articleBody wrapping these two.
I am still working on it.
WordPress Theme 3 Column Holy Grail CSS Layout Plus
That’s not a layout with a sidebar dropped below the main content, that’s the same as how Talian/Stallion loads it’s AdSense ad code, just simple floats.
The way it’s done on that page is not going to be possible with a WordPress theme to have a sidebar where you want it, the actual end product might be possible, how they probably do it, no.
What they have probably done (without looking at the code in detail) is add a couple of floated divs one to the left and one to the right, that’s really easy to do when you have the same layout over the entire site, but you don’t on a WordPress site because you have archives. Where would you add simple floated divs on archive pages?
As a side note this entire site is filled with left and right floating content, all the widgets with thumbnails are left/right floats, even your Gravatar image is floating (I use float a LOT).
That’s why you’d have to add some nifty CSS coding I mentioned before, creating an empty block of code within the main content area that you either absolute or relative position the other code (your right sidebar) over this empty block. See the empty block to the right, I had to set the height to 200px, not even sure you’d be able to use this as the height needs to be variable and not set.
As it happens I use this sort of floating code in my SEO themes so the content is loaded code wise before the sidebars. If you view source of Talian and Stallion you’ll find code wise it’s
Head
Content
Right Sidebar
Left Sidebar
Footer
This is the code layout for all Talian/Stallion settings (doesn’t matter which Stallion layout is used, the positioning is CSS based).
With Stallion some of the head code is also below the footer:
Head
Navigation links
Content
Right Sidebar
Left Sidebar
Footer
Head some navigation links -- the are positioned over the header code
A header widget area
It’s based on a 3 Column Holy Grail CSS Layout (do a Google search or two for 3 Column Holy Grail CSS Layout).
What you see on page in Talian and Stallion with a left and right sidebar
Head
Navigation links
Left Sidebar
Content
Right Sidebar
Footer
It was difficult to achieve this with Talian, basically put sidebars code wise after the main content, had the left sidebar float left, content float right and right sidebar float right (something like that, they were three floats
).
It was unbelievably difficult to achieve with Stallion because Stallion wasn’t fixed with a left and right sidebar, the sidebars can be stacked using CSS which meant the ‘standard’ 3 Column Holy Grail CSS Layout didn’t work.
I forget exactly how I did it with stallion (took hours of trial and error to get right because I couldn’t find a similar example online) basically each of the 12 Stallion layouts has their own layout CSS file and the codes different for the main layouts left/right, all left, all right, no sidebars.
More I think about this harder it seems with Talian or Stallion without a major redesign that would strip the SEO layout of sidebars below main content code wise. If you forget about keeping the sidebars code of Talian below the main content I’m sure this is relatively easy. Talian code layout would be something like:
Head
Left Sidebar
Main Content
Right Sidebar
Footer
David
WordPress SEO Theme Talian 5 with AdSense Ads
CSS with main content area wrapping the right sidebar
Yes, now I see the NYT wasn’t the best example to what I want, but only to show how they try hard to put some widgets inside the content.
I am still working to add this “nifty” code block and placing the right sidebar inside it --
What I am not sure is whether this new layout you suggested --
Head
Left Sidebar
Main Content
Right Sidebar
Footer
will have some SEO implications, because the source code will list the left sidebar content before the main content.
((Probably the reason for the current layout is to keep the main content above the other stuff – I know the SEO power of the Tallian/Stalion)).
WordPress SEO Theme Talian 5 with AdSense Ads
SEO Value for Content High Code Wise
I’m sure you can guess why Talian and Stallion doesn’t have the easier to work with HTML code
Some SEOs believe its very important, one of those SEO factors I’ve not tested and went with the “better to be safe than sorry option” since it won’t cause harm pushing the important content high code wise: makes logical sense what a search engines reads at the top code wise is more important than what’s at the bottom, so if you can have the important content higher up, you should.
I personally wouldn’t change the main code to that level just in case. CSS changes are SEO neutral, which is why all Stallion layout changes are CSS and not HTML based.
BTW if you updated to Stallion you might be able to achieve what you want to some degree. Select a left sidebar layout which put all the content on the right and use the content widget area (not available with Talian) for loading widgets directly within the content. Where in Talian there’s an AdSense ad floating to the left/right of the main content, in Stallion there’s also a content widget area there as well that can float left/right or center.
Still wouldn’t be exactly how you want it and would run into problems with the archive pages, but it’s a lot closer to what you want than Talian is. Maybe with some CSS changes you could push the content widget further down the page and put your sidebar widgets within it.
In your first post you mentioned doing this for the larger ad units, upgrading to Stallion and using the 210px wide left sidebar layout would allow for the 728px wide ad unit without any other code changes where the Talian floating ad unit resides. This is a post using the 210px left layout https://www.stallion-theme.com/highlighting-wordpress-authors-in-google-search-results doesn’t have an ad (don’t use ads on that site), but you can see a 728px ad would fit in the main content are easily. You could also with minor code changes have the content widget area load after the AdSense ad unit on the right as well.
There are so many more design options with Stallion as you almost certainly have a Stallion ID would make sense to work with Stallion.

WordPress SEO Theme Talian 5 with AdSense Ads
The left sidebar is key for navigation purposes (categories) and for putting some ad units (160x600) down/up the scroll -- That’s one of the reasons I still work with Talian.
For me, having the main content higher up the source code is an important factor. SO, I’d give up making changes that could harm that order.
Still struggling with my Talian to achieve it. Might be hopeless?
Yes, I see why the archive pages are going to be affected as it is a sidewide change.
But, this proposed layout could be good option for a new them, or even serious of themes.

HeatMap Theme H1 Tag On Home Page
Just wanted to clear something up regarding the ‘H1′ tag concern on the home page for the HeatMap Theme. The instructional page on Heatmap’s website explains to use what they call the ‘Featured Page’ as your home page or ‘Front Page’. When you choose this option in WP settings, your home page (an actual ‘page’ in WP that you choose) gives the page title an H1 tag and then all of your article titles listed on the page H2 tags.
This H1 tag is not the ‘meta’ title tag in the heading but rather below the header at the top of the page.
Is it better to have the ‘page title’ as an H1 tag?
Thanks
One more thing. One of my sites that uses the HeatMap theme is phenomenal regarding Adsense ads (image only ads 300x250) for a ‘free software’ downloads. The positioning and flexibility options you have in HeatMap have helped my CTR like you would not believe. I don’t want to shamelessly plug my site here in your forum and honestly try not to share my big money making techniques that I’ve worked hard to learn how to do but I’m always more than willing to help anyone or answer questions with their sites. I love to give input and make suggestions to help others. What you put out into this world comes back to you — IMO!
P.S. — I’m curious about this other theme you are plugging and look forward to checking it out. Love your site by the way! Nicely organized.

Heatmap WordPress Theme vs Talian 5 Theme vs Stallion 7 SEO Theme Headers
Not sure what the H1 header usage in Heatmap theme has to do with the Talian theme, but happy to compare header usage, not just H1 let’s look at all H* usage.
Talian 5 isn’t my best WordPress SEO or AdSense theme, Stallion 7 is better, but will compare both.
I’ll use your site as a Heatmap example.
Headers H1 to H6 Best SEO Practices
For all H* headers there should not be any sitewide headers, H1 through to H6 should never be used sitewide (basically you should never use the same content like the blog name in a header sitewide), on this point may WordPress themes fail.
H1 Comparison : Best SEO Practices
The H1 header for SEO reasons is generally used once per page and contains the most important keyword phrase (main SERP or very close derivative).
Heatmap Home Page : Site Title
Talian 5 Home Page : Site Title
Stallion 7 Home Page : Site Title
All use best SEO practices
Heatmap Categories : No H1 Present
Talian 5 Categories : Category Title
Stallion 7 Categories : Category Title
Stallion and Talian use best SEO practices, Heatmap fails.
Heatmap Tags : No H1 Present
Talian 5 Tags : Tags Title
Stallion 7 Tags : Tags Title
Stallion and Talian use best SEO practices, Heatmap fails.
Heatmap Single Posts and Static Pages : Post/Page Title
Talian Single Posts and Static Pages : Post/Page Title
Stallion 7 Single Posts and Static Pages : Post/Page Title
All use best SEO practices
Didn’t check 404′s, search pages can say Stallion and Talian use best SEO practices on all page types.
H2 Comparison : Best SEO Practices
The H2 header for SEO reasons is generally used at least once per page and contains important keyword phrase, important derivative keyphrases to the main SERP(s) for that page only.
Heatmap Home Page : Archived Post Titles X 8 (one for each archived post)
Talian 5 Home Page : Archived Post Titles X 8 (one for each archived post)
Stallion 7 Home Page : Archived Post Titles X 3 (one for each of the first 3 archived post)
Using same format as your home page which has 8 archived posts, for categories and tags will use 8 as the base number.
This is where Stallion starts to take the lead. Although having 8 H2 headers on the home page isn’t the end of the world it’s not ideal, with the H2 header it’s generally best practice to have a small number unless it’s a really large page, so 1, 2 or 3 H2′s is best. Pretty sure Stallion is the only WordPress theme that includes this feature. With Talian and Heatmap if your archives show 20 posts you get 20 H2 headers!
Heatmap Categories : Category Title and Archived Post Titles X 8 (one for each archived post)
Talian 5 Categories : Archived Post Titles X 8 (one for each archived post)
Stallion 7 Categories : Archived Post Titles X 3 (one for each of the first 3 archived post)
Using same format as your home page which has 8 archived posts.
Heatmap fails, puts the Category title in the first H2, this should be a H1. Talian is best SEO practices for a good WordPress SEO Theme, Stallion is THE best WordPress SEO theme and starts to take the lead SEO wise on headers.
Like with the home page having 8 H2 headers on the category page isn’t the end of the world it’s not ideal, with the H2 header it’s generally best practice to have a small number unless it’s a really large page, so 1, 2 or 3 H2′s is best. The other post titles in Stallion on archives are within H3 (up to 4 H3s), H4 (the rest).
Tags same as categories.
Heatmap Single Posts and Static Pages : Not Used (I think your H2s are added manually?)
Talian Single Posts and Static Pages : Not Used
Stallion 7 Single Posts and Static Pages : Not Used
All use best SEO practices in my expert SEO opinion. As a theme developer for posts and pages it’s best to not use the H2 header, this allows the webmaster to add a relevant H2 header manually. This does leave some SEO to the user, but SEO theme developers shouldn’t force a H2.
Getting bored now so will speed things up
H3, H4, H5, H6 Comparison : Best SEO Practices
This is where it gets a little subjective, I don’t see much value in adding H5 and H6 to a theme, these headers are so deep should be left for the user to add on larger posts (many posts H5+ won’t be appropriate). H3 and H4 I use within the theme to support the main pages SERPs.
Heatmap uses sitewide H4s for widget headings, major SEO mistake
Talian 5 doesn’t have any sitewide H*s. On posts and pages H3 and H4 are used to repeat the title of the post/page
Stallion 7 doesn’t have any sitewide H*s. On posts and pages H3 and H4 are used to repeat the title of the post/page with the option to use what are part of the Stallion All In One SEO features, a set of 5 additional keyphrases that can be added to every post/page (on the edit screen). This site uses Stallion 7, look at the header usage of the main Talian 5 post. For example above the comment form there’s a H4 header “Leave a reply to WordPress SEO Ad Theme”, WordPress SEO Ad Theme is one of the Stallion All In One Keyphrases. Above the comments is a H3 “### responses to Talian WordPress SEO Theme”, Talian WordPress SEO Theme is another Stallion All In One SEO Keyphrase. This adds SEO relevance to derivative SERPs.
As mentioned earlier in Stallion on archive pages H3s and H4s are used, the archived posts titles.
As you can see Talian 5 is a good WordPress SEO theme, Stallion is the best WordPress SEO theme. Heatmap is OK, but fails in a few key areas.
Take into account this is only looking at headers, Heatmap has loads of basic SEO mistakes like using anchor text Read More, it’s not an SEO theme, not even close.
Heatmap is a good ad theme, on AdSense ad placement I don’t see any ad placement that can’t be made with Talian and Stallion. I note the main content AdSense ad on your posts isn’t wrapped by your content, that might be because you added a couple of headers to the content manually that would result in the content not wrapping (have the same issue with Talian/Stallion if you add a header high in the content : headers are block elements so break floats). On your site your home page and archives lacks a floating main content AdSense ad which will be leaving ad money on the table, see a few Stallion ad placement layouts

Making a Responsive theme - Using a child theme
Hi David,
I’ve just found a simple way to create a responsive theme out of an existing one using a child theme.
Thought you were interested in adding this feature to the current and future versions of Talian and Stalion themes.
As you know, responsive theme design respond well to different screen sizes, such as -- smartphones, mobile phones, tablets and wide variety of desktop screen sizes.
So, here are the links to the tutorial -- looks simple.
Two links:
Child theme -- https://www.blissfulinterfaces.com/build-a-responsive-wordpress-theme/

That’s it.
I am going to test it this week.

Help
Dave,
I am trying to learn how to use the Talian theme. Is there anywhere one can go to get help or any tutorials? Just certain parts I am unsure about.
Thank you!!
